I can’t begin to tell you how long we’ve been searching for a cellulite treatment that really works. For as long as I can remember, I’ve met patients who are unhappy with the appearance of cellulite, most often on the backs of their thighs or buttocks. While it’s definitely more common among women, it’s something that can affect men as well, and I’ve met people from all walks of life who have it.
It’s a really common concern for a lot of people, and for a long time we’ve shared their frustration with the lack of viable and effective treatment options. At the same time, we’ve seen dozens of technologies hit the market that claim to be able to manage the appearance of cellulite. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, they never stood up to rigorous clinical testing and never provided real, lasting results. There’s just no way we’re going to ask our patients to waste their hard earned money on something that only “sort of” works.
That’s why Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Austin and I were so impressed when we learned about Cellfina®. It’s an innovative, minimally invasive procedure that treats the primary structural cause of cellulite. Results can be visible in as little as three days and still evident three years post treatment. It’s long-lasting and, best of all, it works.
What Is Cellulite?
For something as common as cellulite, it’s surprising that its underlying cause is not more commonly understood. So what is going on beneath the skin’s surface to cause the appearance of dimpling?
The first misunderstanding that should be cleared up is that cellulite is not caused by fat or by an irregular structure or appearance of body fat. In fact, people who have very low body fat can have cellulite, while people who have excess fat can have no cellulite at all.
Cellulite is actually an unevenness or irregularity of the skin caused by a connection of soft tissue between the underlying muscle layer and the skin itself. These connections, known as fibrous septae, can become more taut and create enough tension to cause a visible dimple or indent in the skin’s surface. Sometimes these dimples are subtle, but sometimes they are more pronounced and noticeable. Cellfina® is a great option as it treats all degrees of cellulite.
How Does Cellfina® Work?
Cellfina® is a minimally invasive technique that smooths out the skin by releasing the tension in these soft tissue connections. It’s performed under local anaesthetic so you remain comfortable and awake throughout the whole treatment—it’s not an operation.
Our expertly trained practitioners carefully evaluate the area that will be treated in order to identify the best approach. Using Cellfina®‘s specially crafted technology, they create a tiny puncture hole that releases the fibrous septae, completely removing the pull on the skin and eliminating the dimple.
It typically takes less than an hour for treatment to be completed, and from there you’re able to go about your day as usual. You might want to take it easy for about 24 hours following treatment, but you won’t experience anything like the downtime associated with surgery. Any discomfort after treatment is usually minimal and easily managed with over the counter products that we’ll discuss with you during your free consultation.
Results are most noticeable within a month after treatment. We know that results are clinically proven to last for three years, as that’s the length of the study that’s been conducted so far; we suspect results will prove to be permanent. Fibrous septae do not reform after being treated, so maintenance sessions are not required, though as we age there may be new dimpling that appears.
Cellfina® is quick, effective, and long-lasting. It just might be the best cure we’ve ever had for cellulite and I can’t wait for our patients to finally experience it. Watch our video and see if Cellfina® is right for you!
