As part of the normal aging process, or due to the physical stresses of pregnancy and delivery, a woman’s vaginal tissue can weaken and stretch. In some women, this weakening can result in vaginal laxity that diminishes physical sensation in intercourse and/or leads to urinary incontinence. This can also lead to a myriad of other issues such as pain during intercourse, inability to orgasm, vaginal dryness, and the weakening of the vaginal wall.
At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic, we understand and are sensitive to how much the side effects of vaginal laxity can affect a woman’s quality of life. That’s why we offer a number of non-surgical and minimally invasive options targeted to treat these concerns.
At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic, we offer two distinct non-surgical vaginal tightening treatments: vaginal tightening with PRP (platelet-rich plasma)/PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) and Votiva.
PRP/PRF is a vaginal tightening option in which we use the patient’s platelet-rich plasma and/or platelet-rich fibrin extracted from the individual’s own blood and inject it into targeted areas of the vagina (such as the clitoris, the vaginal wall, as well as the urethra, depending on individual needs and issues that are being targeted). The injection of plasma and fibrin to targeted areas promotes healthy skin cell turnover and collagen production, which in turn restores sensation, tightens vaginal tissue, and improves incontinence issues.
Votiva involves using a handheld device emitting radiofrequency (RF) to the labia, vulva, and vagina. The way it works is by administering heat beneath the surface of the skin to tighten the tissue without surgery and without damage. This method not only tightens the skin, but simultaneously increases protein production to aid in elasticity. The fortified skin barrier thus improves symptoms of vaginal laxity, dryness, urinary incontinence, and decreased sexual satisfaction.
Each treatment is very effective, and the one you choose is really just dependent on your personal needs and which method you feel more comfortable with. At your complimentary consultation, we will discuss the differences between the two treatments at length and help you decide which procedure will give you optimal results.
PRP/PRF takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. A vile or two of blood is extracted from your arm, which is then spun in a centrifuge. In the meantime, your provider will apply some local anesthetic so that you are comfortable during the procedure. Once spun, your provider will separate the platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin from your blood (the substance is not red, but rather yellow or gold in colour) and proceed to inject it into targeted areas of the vagina.
The injection portion of PRP/PRF is very short, at most 10-15 minutes and you may feel some pressure, but otherwise, the treatment is totally comfortable and not painful. You will probably notice a difference soon after treatment, but optimal results will present themselves about one month following your treatment. You may need one repeat treatment following the initial one and then yearly maintenance treatments are recommended.
Votiva sessions last approximately 45 minutes. During the procedure, the practitioner employs a hand-piece that administers RF energy to the specified regions. The devices utilizes gentle, controlled radiofrequency energy to heat the vaginal tissues, which in turn stimulates collagen production and enhances blood flow, resulting in firmer and more elastic tissue.
Following the treatment, you might experience slight redness or swelling, which typically diminishes within a few hours. Many women see improvements after the initial session, but for the best results, a series of treatments—generally up to three, spaced a few weeks apart—is often advised.
Anyone who feels they have lost laxity in this most intimate area of their body, and who is not currently pregnant or breastfeeding, is a great candidate for non-surgical vaginal tightening.
For vaginal tightening with PRP/PRF, we cannot perform this treatment if you have an active infection or sore in the treatment area, if you have a low platelet count, in the event of a metastatic disease or other skin diseases, and if you have any blood or bleeding disorders. Patients on blood thinner medications (such as Aspirin or other medications) or who may have certain autoimmune disorders are not good candidates for PRP/PRF treatments.
Similarly, we caution against Votiva for patients actively taking blood thinners, unless you have a medical condition that requires them, as these medications increase the possibility of bruising. The treatment is also not recommended for those with bleeding disorders or any conditions that may affect healing. If you have an open sore, rash, infection, or similar condition near or on the treatment site, you will need to wait until it resolves before you have the treatment.
If you are unsure whether you are a candidate for these treatments, we invite you to come in for a complimentary consultation to discuss your options further.
Very few special preparations are required for non-surgical vaginal tightening. For PRP/PRF we only recommend that you drink lots of water before your treatment so that we can draw a good amount of blood. For Votiva we ask that you remove hair before-hand due to the use of heating technology. Hair should be shaved (not waxed or chemically removed) in the treatment area 2-4 days prior to the procedure. For both treatments it is best to wait until your menstrual cycle is over before scheduling your procedure.
There is no downtime after non-surgical vaginal tightening aside from abstaining from sexual intercourse for 5 days following PRP/PRF, and 3 days following Votiva. Many women decide to come in on their lunch hour, and return to work or other duties immediately after.
PRP/PRF vaginal treatments cost $1200 per treatment. We recommend two treatments for best results, and then once-yearly maintenance treatments.
Votiva vaginal treatments cost $600 per treatment. We recommend one treatment every 4-6 weeks, for up to three treatments total.

A consultation with our specialist RN is required to determine which treatment is best for you and your individual needs. Some patients experiencing multiple areas of concern may best suit combined therapies. Those solely interested in improving sexual sensation or the look of the vagina may benefit from Votiva alone. A unique treatment plan will be created during your consult to address all of your needs.
