As part of the normal aging process, or due to the physical stresses of pregnancy and delivery, a woman’s vaginal tissue can weaken and stretch. In some women, this weakening can result in vaginal laxity that diminishes physical sensation in intercourse and/or leads to urinary incontinence. This can also lead to a myriad of other issues such as pain during intercourse, inability to orgasm, vaginal dryness, and the weakening of the vaginal wall.
At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic we understand and are sensitive to how much the side effects of vaginal laxity can affect a woman’s quality of life. That’s why we offer a number of non-surgical and minimally invasive options targeted to treat these concerns.
At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic we offer two distinct non-surgical vaginal tightening treatments, the Viveve Solution as well as vaginal tightening with PRP (platelet-rich plasma)/PRF (platelet-rich fibrin).
The Viveve Solution works deep at the cellular level to rebuild and restore collagen within the vaginal tissue – without surgery and without damaging the skin. The Viveve device is the only one of its kind to combine surface cooling and deep heating via radio frequency. This allows the treatment to penetrate deep into the vaginal tissue, making it a comfortable, single-session solution for vaginal laxity.
PRP/PRF is another vaginal tightening option in which we use the patient’s platelet-rich plasma and/or platelet-rich fibrin extracted from the individual’s own blood and inject it to targeted areas of the vagina (such as the clitoris otherwise known as the “O shot”, the vaginal wall, as well as the urethra, depending on individual needs and issues that are being targeted). The injection of plasma and fibrin to targeted areas promotes healthy skin cell turnover and collagen production, which in turn restores sensation, tightens vaginal tissue, and improves incontinence issues.
Each treatment is very effective, and the one you choose is really just dependent on your personal needs and which method you feel more comfortable with. At your complimentary consultation we will discuss the differences between the two treatments at length and help you decide which procedure will give you optimal results.
The Viveve Solution uses a patented, monopolar radio frequency technology for renewing the tissue just inside the vaginal opening. Cryogen cooling is delivered to the skin at the same time as the RF energy, ensuring you are entirely comfortable throughout the entirety of this 30 minute treatment. The energy is delivered deep into the vagina’s supportive tissue and many women report an improvement immediately after the treatment. The best results will occur 90 days post treatment and include feelings of improved sexual satisfaction and urinary incontinence
PRP/PRF takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. A vile or two of blood is extracted from your arm, which is then spun in a centrifuge. In the meantime, your provider will apply some local anesthetic so that you are comfortable during the procedure. Once spun, your provider will separate the platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin from your blood (the substance is not red, but rather yellow or gold in colour) and proceed to inject it to targeted areas of the vagina.
The injection portion of PRP/PRF is very short, at most 10-15 minutes and you may feel some pressure, but otherwise the treatment is totally comfortable and not painful. You will probably notice a difference soon after treatment, but optimal results will present themselves about one month following your treatment. You may need one repeat treatment following the initial one and then yearly maintenance treatments are recommended.
Anyone who feels they have lost laxity in this most intimate area of their body, and who is not currently pregnant or breastfeeding, is a great candidate for non-surgical vaginal tightening.
We are unable to perform the Viveve Solution on anyone with a pacemaker, an open vaginal sore or STD, or someone with a prolapse of their uterus past the hymenal ring.
As for vaginal tightening with PRP/PRF, we cannot perform this treatment if you have an active infection or sore in the treatment area, if you have a low platelet count, in the event of a metastatic disease or other skin diseases, and if you have any blood or bleeding disorders. Patients on blood thinner medications (such as Aspirin or other medications) or who may have certain autoimmune disorders are not good candidates for PRP/PRF treatments.
If you are unsure whether you are a candidate for these treatments, we invite you to come for a complimentary consultation to discuss your options further.
No special preparations are required for non-surgical vaginal tightening. For PRP/PRF we only recommend that you drink lots of water before your treatment so that we can draw a good amount of blood. For both treatments it is best to wait until your menstrual cycle is over before scheduling your procedure.
There is no downtime after non-surgical vaginal tightening aside from abstaining from sexual intercourse for 48 hours following the Viveve Solution and for 5 days following PRP/PRF. Many women decide to come in on their lunch hour, and return to work or other duties immediately after.
The Viveve Solution is $2500. Only one treatment is required. We may recommend a yearly maintenance treatment, however whether this is recommended or not will be discussed in a complimentary consultation with your treatment provider.
PRP/PRF vaginal treatments cost $1200 per treatment (these include the “O Shot” if desired). The PRP/PRF “O Shot” costs $1,000 per treatment. We recommend two treatments for best results, and then once yearly maintenance treatments.
Financing options are available for all of our non-surgical procedures.
