What is Cellulite?

There are connective bands that weave through the fat, typically around our thighs and buttocks. When these tight bands pull down on the skin, this creates the dimpling and puckering we know as “cellulite.” The funny thing about cellulite is that it’s tricky to treat, because its root cause is ultimately unknown.

Generally fat is what typically causes cellulite, but cellulite affects approximately 80% of women and even the ones in the best shape can have it. Meaning that genetics, age, and other external factors, such as fluctuating hormones and your level of skin elasticity can all have a role to play in producing cellulite.

Cellulite Removal Treatments

We offer a number of treatments that can improve the appearance of cellulite.

InstaLift, also known as thread lifting, can reduce the appearance of cellulite by being strategically inserted just below the surface of the skin where you have cellulite. These threads work to tighten the skin on the body making it firmer and creating more elasticity. They are inserted via a specific mesh-like technique in order to create this tightness of the skin. They also work to stimulate the production of collagen, which ultimately extends the length of your result.

Cellulite can also be addressed via a stimulatory filler treatment with either Sculptra or Radiesse. Stimulatory fillers are less about building volume and more about improving the structural integrity of the skin by stimulating new scar tissue growth and boosting collagen production.

Sculptra in particular improves on overall skin structure over time and stimulates a lot of collagen production with some volume building. Radiesse while similarly a collagen producer, is more conducive to an immediate volume boost, better suited for individuals who need to fill out deeper skin depressions to improve the appearance of dimpling and rippling.

Morpheus8 Body is another treatment that can be helpful for cellulite removal. Morpheus8 Body tightens the skin by shrinking tissue, reducing small amounts of unwanted fat, and building collagen. It does this in a unique combination of radiofrequency (RF) heat being administered via deep microneedling. Having the capability to target skin tissue at multiple depths at a time, it allows for skin remodeling as well as better overall skin uniformity, ultimately helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

We might recommend combining Morpheus8 Body with Forma Body, another RF treatment for skin tightening. Although Forma Body doesn’t directly target cellulite, by tightening the skin further it can improve on its overall appearance.

During your complimentary consultation with one of our providers we can discuss whether a single or combination treatment approach will give you the best overall result. We can combine treatments such as Sculptra/Radiesse and threads on the same day, or Morpheus8 Body and Forma Body on the same day.

Morpheus8 Body and Forma Body should be spaced one month apart from threads and or Sculptra/Radiesse treatments.

What Should I Expect from My Cellulite Removal Treatment?

Cellulite removal treatments are minimally invasive and generally don’t take much longer than an hour in clinic depending on whether you’re getting a single treatment or a combination of treatments.

A thread lift treatment takes approximately 45-60 minutes during which threads are inserted just below the surface of the skin under a local anesthetic. You can expect a strange sensation as the threads are being manipulated, but the treatment is otherwise painless.

Sculptra/Radiesse is similar to a facial filler treatment, only the target areas are on your body where you have cellulite. The treatment takes about 30-60 minutes.

Morpheus8 Body is also administered under a local anesthetic and takes about an hour, the actual direct treatment time taking only around 20 minutes. Like any microneedling treatment, RF heat will penetrate your skin via small injections to target areas of the body.

Recovery following Cellulite Treatment

Because cellulite treatments are minimally invasive they require little to no downtime. They’re also typically done in areas like the thighs and buttocks that are easily covered up.

Following a thread lift treatment, you can expect tenderness, bruising and swelling in the area where the threads were inserted. Your skin may also feel tight and a bit strange for a couple of weeks. As for bruising and swelling, that should go down within a few days of the treatment.

You’ll see the results of your treatment immediately, and optimal results around 4-6 weeks. Your results will only continue to improve in the months following your treatment.

Morpheus8 Body may also cause mild bruising and swelling. You might develop small raised bumps that can be itchy in the area where you had the treatment. Your skin should heal within 24-48 hours of the treatment.

You’ll see an immediate improvement in the quality of your skin following Morpheus8 Body, however skin tightening results take approximately 3 weeks to present themselves.

Sculptra and Radiesse typically don’t require any downtime. You’ll need to stay away from vigorous exercise for about 24-48 hours, and any tenderness should diminish within that timeframe as well.

Although downtime is short following Sculptra/Radiesse, results require a little patience. You’ll see an immediate improvement, however, optimal results appear around the 3-4 week mark and continue to improve in the months following. Stimulatory fillers kick-start your body into building up collagen and new scar tissue, and your body needs time to generate these elements, one month at minimum.

Forma Body typically does not require any downtime and usually yields results within a similar timeframe to Mopheus8 Body.

The Cost of Cellulite Removal Treatment

The cost of your cellulite treatment will be determined during your complimentary consultation when we make a customized treatment plan for your particular needs. Some patients may require a combination treatment plan. For optimal results, patients can expect to require multiple treatment sessions.

How Long Does Cellulite Treatment Last?

Cellulite treatment can last anywhere from 1-2 years depending on what treatment or combination of treatments you received. The results of thread lifting and Morpheus8 Body tend to last approximately 1 year whereas Sculptra or Radiesse can last for up to 2 years. All of these treatments will typically require yearly maintenance treatments.
