If you’re looking to address skin concerns such as melasma, uneven skin texture, acne scarring, skin dryness and dullness, look no further than microneedling. At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic we offer a number of microneedling beauty booster treatments that aim to improve on your skin’s overall appearance and quality with deep hydration, the smoothing out of uneven textures, as well as by tightening and brightening the skin.
The main goal of microneedling is to treat a number of skin concerns via the stimulation of the natural production of collagen and elastin in the body. By wounding the skin with tiny micro abrasions, you kick start the body’s wound healing response which allows it to grow and regenerate new and healthy skin tissue making your skin firmer, tighter, smoother and brighter.
Microneedling can address a number of issues such as acne scarring, melasma, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, dry or dull skin, as well as uneven skin texture.
At The Plastic Surgery Clinic and MD Beauty Clinic we offer a number of microneedling treatment options depending on the skin concerns that you are looking to address.
We offer Morpheus8, which is microneedling with radio frequency (RF) energy. Morpheus8 is a unique microneedling treatment as it has the capacity to penetrate the skin much more deeply than traditional microneedling treatments.
We also offer microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which is great for individuals who are looking for a natural alternative to microneedling with hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers.
Microneedling with hyaluronic acid is the most popular and widespread microneedling treatment. At PSC and MD Beauty Clinic we offer several different HA based filler options: Juvéderm Volite, Redensity I, and Restylane Vital Light.
Juvéderm Volite is an injectable hyaluronic acid part of the Juvéderm family of products. Unlike other hyaluronic acid fillers, Volite does not create volume in the skin, rather, it provides an overall boost of hydration and glow while addressing certain kinds of fine lines that cannot be corrected with Botox or volume fillers (for example fine lines that appear after smiling). Your skin will be more hydrated, smoother, and will have a distinct “glow” to it.
Redensity I combines, Redensity I, a non-cross linked hyaluronic acid filler, formulated with antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, with microneedling in order to help increase collagen production and replenish the skin’s look from the inside out.
Restylane Vital Light equally delivers remarkable hydration, brightening, and overall rejuvenation to the skin. We typically like to use Restylane for younger skin or more delicate areas such as on the neck, décolletage, and on the back of the hands.
Depending on the skin concerns that you are trying to address, it is also possible to combine different microneedling treatment sessions, for instance you can start with microneedling with HA followed by microneedling with PRP a few weeks later. We can discuss all treatment options with you when you come in for your complimentary consultation.
Microneedling treatments take anywhere from 15-20 minutes. They can be performed with a V2 Pen (this allows the injector extra added accuracy and precision in their technique) or alternatively your provider can do it with a needle by hand. Prior to commencing the treatment, a topical numbing cream will be offered to you for added comfort
The primary goal of microneedling is to deliver filler via many tiny injections into the skin in order to stimulate the body’s wound healing response. Activating the body’s wound healing response is the principle behind microneedling: as the body works to repair these micro-wounds, it produces more collagen and elastin, causing the skin to become thicker and stronger while improving its overall texture.
You can expect minimal bleeding during any microneedling session due to the microabrasions being made to the skin.
Microneedling Beauty Boosters are great treatments for all skin-types, whether you are combating aging skin, the look of fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, acne scars and even melasma, when used as part of a combination therapy plan. It is an overall skin booster for men and women in their early 20s to late 70s. Individuals with acne scarring have also experienced beautiful results with these treatments.
Anyone who is looking to improve hydration, glow, and skin elasticity is a great candidate for microneedling beauty boosters.
During your complimentary consultation one of our providers can help determine whether microneedling is the right treatment for you, and which treatment in particular will best address your particular skin concerns.
We want you to avoid anything that typically causes bruising for 1-2 days pre and post treatment. Avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Advil, if you can. Certain supplements like Vitamin E, fish oil and St. John’s Wort have been known to increase the likelihood of bruising. Limit alcohol intake as well, as it too, can make you more prone to developing a bruise. Try to drink plenty of water in the 24 hours prior to the treatment. Your provider will discuss these preparations in more detail when you meet for a consultation.
You can expect a couple of days of social downtime following your microneedling treatment. You may notice tiny bumps where the injections were made for 1-3 days post treatment. These can easily be concealed with makeup (though we recommend that you avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours following your treatment). Some individuals may bruise but bruising tends to be minimal. We also recommend that you avoid exercise within the first 24 hours post treatment.
With microneedling beauty boosters you need to be patient. It takes time for your body to build up collagen and elastin, and for your skin to regenerate. This is why you won’t really see results immediately following your treatment. Some mild edema may cause the skin to look plump, however full results are not typically visible until 1 month following your third and final treatment.
