What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injection Treatments?

Anti-wrinkle injection treatments work below the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the brow and minimizing moderate to severe crow’s feet. Other areas that are targeted with these injections are horizontal forehead fine lines, squint lines produced by the nose, and areas affected by hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

The most commonly used injectables that treat fine lines and wrinkles are products that are based on a formulation of Botulinum Toxin A, a neuromodulator that temporarily blocks the nerves that cause your muscles to contract causing fine lines and wrinkles.

The injectable neuromodulators that are typically used to treat fine lines and wrinkles are Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and most recently Nuceiva. They all work towards the same goal, to minimize and block movement that causes unwanted creases. Some may have slightly different formulations than others. They all last more or less the same amount of time and need to be used regularly in order to maintain your result.

As an injectable neuromodulator, Botox has been on the market the longest and has been used in order to treat a number of symptoms since the 1970s. It was approved for cosmetic use in Canada in 2001. It is an extremely safe and effective way to reverse and prevent the signs of ageing on the face.

Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009 and approved in Canada for cosmetic use in 2014. It is an alternative treatment method for minimizing the appearance of frown lines and forehead wrinkles.

Xeomin was approved by the FDA in 2011 and launched in Canada a year later. It is particularly effective for patients who find they have a higher degree of resistance to neurotoxins.

Finally, the newest member of the injectable neuromodulator group, Nuceiva was approved by Health Canada and the FDA in 2019, and is also considered to be a very advanced and effective new anti-wrinkle treatment.

What to Expect From Your Anti-Wrinkle Injection Treatment

Anti-wrinkle injection treatments take place at both our Mississauga (The Plastic Surgery Clinic) and Toronto (MD Beauty Clinic) locations. Treatment sessions take anywhere from 10-15 minutes to complete. Together, you and your injector will determine the ideal treatment plan tailored to target your particular needs.

Anti-wrinkle injection treatments are safe, quick and painless, and require no downtime. The results are immediate and you can return to work or your regular activities immediately after your treatment.

Your injector will administer small injections to the targeted muscle locations with a very fine micro needle.

Prior to your treatment you and your injector will discuss your needs and the look that you are trying to achieve. Based on your discussion you will decide upon dosage amounts.

At PSC and MD Beauty Clinic our approach is not to restrict movement entirely, but rather to minimize movement in order to give the face a softer and more natural look. We tend to start with small doses and then work our way up if needed.

How Much Does Anti-Wrinkle Injection Treatment Cost?

Anti-wrinkle treatment costs $12 per unit with a nurse injector and $15 per unit with a cosmetic MD.

How Long Does Anti-Wrinkle Injection Treatment Last?

Anti-wrinkle treatment results can be seen immediately and typically last anywhere from 3-4 months. In order to maintain your result we recommend that you re-treat the area approximately every 3 months. You can discontinue treatment at any time and if you choose to do so the treated area will return to the way it was before treatment.
