Sculptra

As we age the key elements, collagen, elastin, and also moisture, that keep our skin youthful and healthy looking begin to dissipate, which can result in skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, skin depressions, and an overall tired look to the skin. Some individuals need a more targeted approach and will benefit from HA fillers or radiofrequency treatments, however, others need something that will give their skin an overall boost, and will address a number of skin concerns at once. As a stimulatory filler Sculptra re-awakens the production of collagen and elastin in the body and rebuilds the binding structures that result in long-lasting skin rejuvenation.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) based dermal filler. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) based and other fillers instead of filling and adding volume to target areas, it plays a stimulatory role, by kick-starting the production of collagen and elastin in the body. Sculptra restores the connective structures below the surface of the skin resulting in a smoother and softer complexion, reducing the appearance of skin depressions, firming up, thickening, and hydrating the skin for overall skin rejuvenation.

Sculptra is a great treatment for those looking to improve on the overall appearance of their skin. What we find is that individuals with great bone structure for instance, don’t necessarily need to fill in volume loss with HA filler, but can really benefit from overall rejuvenation. Sculptra acting as a bio-stimulator, does just that. It promotes the regeneration of collagen both within and beneath your skin as well as your fat pads. It acts as a “seed” for collagen growth and is currently the only product of its kind.

Sculptra can treat moderate to deep facial folds as well as sunken areas of the skin. It also works to improve and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and is very effective for areas like the nasolabial folds, the cheek hollows, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.

What to Expect from your Sculptra Treatment

Sculptra treatments are very similar to any other injectable treatments. They can take anywhere between 30-60 minutes, during which Sculptra is expertly injected into target areas. Because Sculptra is considered to be a bio-stimulator it works best when injected into the deeper layers under the surface of the skin. Following your injections, your provider will then massage the product into the face in order to ensure even distribution.

There’s no downtime following Sculptra treatment. Most patients feel completely comfortable returning to work and their regular activities immediately following their treatment. You can expect some minimal swelling or redness, but this will heal quickly, within 24-48 hours of your treatment. You may have some minimal bruising, discomfort and/or tenderness, which could last for up to two weeks.

You will need to avoid extensive sun exposure for several days following your treatment, and you will also need to massage the treatment area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Your provider will discuss the best way to take care of the area with you following your treatment.

Because Sculptra works as a stimulatory filler, it will take some time before you see the results of your treatment, usually anywhere between 3-6 months following your first treatment. Sculptra promotes the production of collagen and elastin in your body, encouraging your body to build new connective structures, which is why typically you won’t see results immediately following your treatment. It takes time for your body to produce the natural elements that will give you a long lasting result.

We typically recommend anywhere between 1-3 initial treatments for optimal results and your results will noticeably improve following each session, your best results being visible a few weeks after your final one. These results will only continue to improve over the months following your final treatment.

How Much Does Sculptra Cost?

The cost of Sculptra is dependent on your individual needs. Typically it’s recommended that we inject one vial of Sculptra for each decade of your life, but everyone is different, and it’s highly dependent on the overall quality of your skin and bone structure.

For optimal results we recommend on average 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments may vary from individual to individual. Some patients may require fewer treatments. Each visit will cost anywhere between $1,000 and $2,000, however we will provide you with a firm quote once you have had your complimentary consultation with us.

How Long Does Sculptra Last?

The results of Sculptra last about 2 years. Some patients have seen their results last longer than two years. Ideally yearly maintenance treatments are recommended in order to maintain your result.
