What is IPL Laser Skin Treatment?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy targets damage in the upper layers of the epidermis, reducing red and brown tones. IPL evens skin tone, reduces age spots, and improves discoloration caused by acne scarring.

IPL laser skin treatment works by using light energy to target unwanted pigment cells. When the light penetrates the unwanted discoloration, the pigments cells heat up and are ultimately destroyed, eliminating your unwanted age spots, freckles, acne scars, or any other damage that you want to undo.

What Should I Expect from My IPL Laser Skin Treatment?

A first consultation with your provider will determine your personalized treatment plan. During your treatment you’ll be asked to wear protective eyewear. Your provider will strategically place the IPL device in order to target your unwanted pigment cells. You may experience a slight snapping sensation on your skin, but this should not feel painful and there is no need for a topical anesthetic with this treatment.

IPL laser skin treatment requires no down time, and you will be able to return to your regular activities immediately after your session. Following your treatment the targeted area may feel warm, as though you have a mild sunburn, and the treated area may be red. You will need to protect the affected area from the sun for at least 48 hours following your treatment.

You’ll also need to avoid the sun prior to undergoing IPL laser skin treatment as sun exposure can have adverse effects on the results of your treatment.

You may notice that the pigment cells that were targeted during treatment will darken over the few days following your session. This is normal and they will flake off after a week or two.

How much Does IPL Laser Skin Treatment Cost?

Typically we recommend an average of 3 treatments in order to fully eliminate the discoloration or scarring that you want to target. That said, everyone is different, some patients might need fewer treatments and some may need a few more, it really depends on what you are trying to clear up.
