Get the Look You Want: Injections for Facial Contouring

photo of a smiling woman

Many people assume injections are only for reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. And they’re great for that—like, scientifically-proven level great. But did you know injections can actually be way more versatile?

A lot of us out there, especially women, feel as though the pressure is always to look younger. But maybe it doesn’t have to be about looking younger, but looking and feeling our absolute best. That said, if anti-aging is what you want from these treatments, that’s totally great and we love that they’re out there.

We also want to tell you about how Botox, dermal fillers, and other injectables can be just as much about non-surgical face contouring in ways you might not have imagined. Here are some of our favourite non-surgical face contouring treatments.

Botox, Our Favourite Versatile Injectable

Yup. This may surprise you, but Botox can be used for more than just eliminating wrinkles.

If you’re really up on your celebrity news you may have heard how Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel had Botox injected in her jaw. The interesting thing is that Frankel wasn’t looking to look younger, but was actually looking for a way to soften her jawline from years of grinding her teeth, which over-strengthened her jaw muscle, creating a widened appearance in her lower face.

Having Botox expertly injected into strategic muscles ended up being very effective in her case, completely transforming the shape of her jaw. Even better, she’s been totally open about the treatment and what it’s done for her.

In addition to minimizing a strong jaw line, Botox can also be used to subtly lift the brow for the right candidate, a procedure that otherwise involves cosmetic surgery. By relaxing strategic muscles that typically keep the outer edges of the brows lowered, the position of the brow is lifted, opening up the area around the eyes. It’s essential that your injector has received extensive training and has experience performing this treatment to achieve the best result. Find out more about the Botox mini brow lift in this video from our very own Nurse Lori (and follow her @asknurselori for even more tips).

And if you think the uses of Botox stop there, amazingly they don’t. When we’re talking versatility of an injectable, Botox is really the perfect definition of one. It can help to correct asymmetries in your eyebrows or soften the intensity of expression lines to open the look of the eye—subtle changes that can help you achieve exactly the look you want. It’s a very cool drug that really doesn’t get enough credit.

Belkyra Double Chin Injections

Belkyra injections for double chin is another injectable treatment that works to contour the face. With Belkyra, deoxycholic acid, a substance that is already naturally present in our bodies, is injected in the area under the chin. Deoxycholic acid works by destroying fat membranes causing the fat cells to die. Once destroyed, our body naturally eliminates the dead fat cells from the body, eradicating the fat from under the chin and resulting in a more contoured shape to the chin and face.

Non-Surgical Nose Job

Did you know that in certain cases you can actually add contour and reshape your nose with soft tissue fillers as opposed to surgery? Even though Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, there is a non-surgical way to correct certain (not all) nose irregularities.

Just like for any other area of the face, with the non-surgical nose job, soft tissue fillers are injected into areas of the nose in order to improve on its overall contour and volume. Soft tissue fillers can be used in order to correct some irregularities of the nose, one of the most common being to enlarge the bridge of the nose. And soft tissue fillers can also be used to improve irregularities after rhinoplasty as opposed to having to undergo another surgical procedure, which is a huge bonus!

Check out this non-surgical nose job result that our very own Dr. Ahmad posted to see what we’re talking about.

Dermal Fillers

In cosmetic surgery, the cheeks and temples are considered to “anchor” the face. In other words, our surrounding features are structured in relation to our cheeks and temples. Dermal fillers are often strategically injected in order to add lost volume in the cheeks and temples. Enhancing and sculpting the cheekbones and temples can really transform your look. It will result in a lift in the lower face and an opening up of the eyebrow and eye area, giving you a kind of non-surgical face lift.

And similar to its applications in the nose and cheeks, dermal fillers can also be used to build volume in the chin in order to create a more sculpted and defined look without surgery or downtime.

So when it comes to injectables, it really doesn’t have to be about looking younger, but can be about face definition and the subtle changes that will create the look you want.
