Face Treatments That Use Your Body’s Natural Materials

We talk a lot about surgery. In our defense, we are literally the plastic surgery clinic 😉. And we also talk a lot about non-surgical treatments, many of which use outside elements, like filler, Botox, or even radiofrequency energy, in order to give our skin that little boost that we’re looking for.

We love all of our procedures and treatments especially when they are performed on the right candidates, because this combo always guarantees best results. But lately we are really in awe of some our surgical as well as non-surgical procedures that use the body’s natural materials in order to improve on the quality of the skin, particularly on our faces.

We can’t forget that the body is a strong, beautiful, resilient entity that has the capacity to regenerate itself over time, and sometimes all it needs is a little push in the right direction to do just that—sometimes we can even harness that regenerating power to create some beautiful cosmetic results. Here are some of our favourite non-surgical and surgical procedures that use what our bodies already have to offer to rejuvenate the face.

Platelet-rich plasma/Platelet-rich fibrin (PRP/PRF) Treatments for the Face

Although they’ve really increased in popularity over the past several years, particularly in the cosmetic industry, PRP/PRF treatments have actually been around for a long time. These treatments originally came about in sports medicine in order to treat sports related injuries.

Researchers had found that when they extracted plasma and/or fibrin from a patient’s blood and injected it at the site of a particular sports injury, it actually helped to decrease swelling, relieved pain, and encouraged the body to begin the healing process.

When it comes to skin rejuvenating treatments for the face, PRP/PRF works in a very similar way and can be a natural alternative to dermal fillers. There are two ways in which we us the body’s plasma and fibrin in order to improve the overall appearance of the skin on the face.

Microneedling with PRP/PRF more popularly known as the vampire facial, combines plasma and fibrin with microneedling, penetrating platelet-rich plasma and/or platelet-rich fibrin just below the surface of the skin via tiny injections.

The treatment stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the body and promotes healthy skin cell turnover. It is an extremely effective treatment for improving textural irregularities, tightening, as well as brightening the skin.

PRP/PRF is equally offered as an injectable treatment. So instead of using filler in order to add volume to areas of the face where there might be mild to moderate skin laxity, for the right candidate, injecting platelet-rich fibrin can be just as effective for treating fine lines and wrinkles, nasolabial folds, the forehead and jawline, and even the very delicate area under the eyes.

If you’re new to skin rejuvenating treatments, or your skin simply needs a nice healthy pick me up, we’ll always recommend PRP/PRF treatments for the face first before we recommend anything a little more aggressive.

Fat Grafting with a Facelift

On the flip side, a more natural approach to skin rejuvenation on the face by using the body’s own elements, is not only unique to non-surgical treatments. If you’re ready for a more advanced procedure like a facelift, but are looking for a more natural approach to the surgery, combining the procedure with fat grafting can be a great option for the right candidate.

If you’re seeking out a facelift, you’re probably looking to address more severe skin laxity on the face. Some patients are more prone to skin laxity because they’ve lost a lot of volume in the face over the years, and the skin has become dehydrated and lost much of its elasticity.

A way of lifting, tightening, as well as adding more volume to the face is by harvesting fat from other areas of the body, like the abdomen or thighs, and then strategically injecting it into key areas of the face, such as in the cheeks, around the mouth, and in the lips.

This is another instance where we can use something that we already have and produce in our bodies and repurpose it in order to rejuvenate as well as regenerate the skin on our faces, without the need to use any foreign entities like fillers or implants.

Our bodies are truly amazing and can produce beautiful results from the inside out.
