Bigger Isn’t Always Better: How to Choose the Right Breast Implant Size for You

Doctor Shows Patient Breast Implant Options Closeup HandsFor women considering undergoing breast augmentation surgery, it can be difficult to choose the best size. And, while many people think the bigger the better, this may not always be the case. Most patients who come to our clinic often seek out a natural look, and that’s what both Dr. Lista and Dr. Ahmad are known for achieving. When it comes to breast augmentation surgery, both of our surgeons will always advise their patients to opt for a more natural look. Why? What some patients often forget is that they will have these implants for many years, so how they may want to look in a bikini now isn’t necessarily how they may want to look in the future.

How to Choose the Best Implant Size for You

The decision to get breast implants may be easy, but deciding on the right size may be more difficult. That’s why it’s wise to consult with your surgeon as to what is the right shape and size for your body type. Even though some women feel a desire to go big, it’s important to consider the long term.

When choosing the best implant size, there are usually three steps to follow:

1. Evaluation of Patient’s Body Type

By taking a series of measurements, our surgeons are better able to understand each patient’s anatomy. Such evaluation includes width of breast, distance between the nipple and the fold, areola width and skin elasticity. A detail-oriented understanding of each patient’s anatomy is imperative in order to personalize the breast implant selection, ensuring the patient’s anatomic boundaries are not compromised in any way.

2. Bra Sizers

During your consultation, our surgeons allow patients to try on specially made bra sizers, which are designed to give each patient a reasonable estimate of what specific implant sizes will look like. The sizers are placed underneath a special bra and from there, patients are given time to look in the mirror with or without a shirt on. By giving patients the option to try on various sizers, they can easily find a size that fits their body, lifestyle and aesthetic desires.

3. Empower with Knowledge

The techniques our surgeon’s use during their consultations not only help their patients define the look they desire, but also empower them to be active in the decision-making process. By providing patients with as much knowledge about both the surgical and post-op recovery process, much of the anxiety patients might have felt in the beginning is replaced with confidence and peace of mind.

Choose with Confidence

At The Plastic Surgery Clinic we perform approximately 400 breast augmentation procedures each year, making Dr. Lista and Dr. Ahmad some of the most experienced and innovative breast augmentation surgeons in Canada.
