4 Telltale Signs of Good Liposuction

Even though it’s probably one of the most transformative procedures you’ll get, the funny thing about liposuction is that the number one sign that you’ve had the best and most experienced surgeon performing your surgery is that ultimately there will be no signs that you’ve had the procedure at all.

There’s an overall misconception that the goal of liposuction is to remove the maximum amount of fat possible, but really liposuction is all about achieving the best cosmetic result. This usually rests on not how much fat is actually taken away, but how much is left behind.

Besides your liposuction being virtually unnoticeable, here are a few telltale signs of an excellent liposuction result.

1. No Lumps or Bumps

A good liposuction result should not result in lumps or bumps. Many patients get a liposuction procedure in order to improve on the appearance of lumps and bumps, so liposuction should not ultimately result in new lumps or bumps or more of them.

That being said, lumps and bumps are not uncommon within the first year following your surgery as it may take a full year for your swelling to fully resolve. The most common after-effects immediately after surgery include swelling, bruising, and soreness at and around the treatment areas.

If you are in any way concerned about your liposuction results, don’t hesitate to call us!

2. No Visible Scars

Another telltale sign of a great liposuction result, is that you should ultimately not be able to see any scars.

The way we perform liposuction is with the use of a very small cannula – in laymen’s terms, really small plastic tubing. So unless your liposuction has been accompanied by a tummy tuck or a more intense body lift or contouring procedure, then the only scars will be very small, no longer than an inch or two, left over from the incision made to allow the entry of the cannula.

In addition, an experienced surgeon will always hide any scars, even the smallest ones in your body’s natural creases, making them basically imperceptible.

3. A Contoured Silhouette

A good liposuction result is one that has mimicked the proportions that you already had, but just finessed them. So what you really want out of your liposuction result is natural curves, not ones that are disproportionate,—for instance a huge difference between your waist and your hips.

Your surgeon is really working to streamline and contour localized areas that may have developed a kind of boxy appearance due to unwanted pockets of fat, while taking your natural curves into consideration.

This is done for primarily two reasons: a natural as opposed to an overdone result looks better, but it also ages better. And a result that ages naturally with you is one that’s going to be the longest lasting one.

4. You Will Look Like You!

Liposuction is a transformative procedure, and you will see a change in your silhouette and proportions. That being said, the best kind of liposuction is one that gives you the most natural end result. You will still look like you, and that is our ultimate goal! We don’t want to completely change your body.

There’s a misconception that liposuction is a weight loss tool but really it’s targeted fat reduction. The reality is that most patients only lose about two to five pounds in total after liposuction. And the best candidates are generally within 30 percent of a healthy weight range and have localized pockets of unwanted and stubborn fat that they’d like to reduce.
