It’s a common question I hear from women who come in for consultations after they’ve gone through pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding: how do I get my body back? No wonder it’s a topic that comes up all the time. You can’t pass by a magazine rack without seeing tabloids reporting on how quickly new moms in Hollywood find their bodies “bouncing back” to a pre-pregnancy state with seemingly no help at all. But that kind of timeline is just not a realistic standard. We have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes (not that it’s any of our business to begin with) and most women don’t have the resources to maintain a team of nutritionists, personal trainers, cosmetic surgeons, and nannies at all hours. Weight gain attributed to pregnancy usually responds well to keeping a balanced diet and maintaining an active lifestyle.
