As much as we love our surgeries here at The Plastic Surgery Clinic, we also really love our non-surgical treatments. Because let’s face it, not everyone needs or is ready for a surgical procedure, or may ever need or want one, and that’s just fine.
We just want to remind everyone that even though we’ve got the word “surgery” in our name, it doesn’t mean that’s all we do. We really want to be able to offer treatments to a wide range of patients that can suit pretty much anyone and any skin type.
That’s why two of our new favourite non-surgical treatments are Forma and Morpheus8. Not only are they great for pretty much anyone looking to improve on the overall quality of their skin, but they also yield some excellent results with little to no downtime.
So what’s the difference between these two treatments, and which one, Forma or Morpheus8, is the right one for you? Keep reading to find out.
Forma vs Morpheus8: What’s the Difference?
Forma and Morpheus8 are similar in a variety of ways, but also have their differences. The primary commonality between the two treatments is that they use radiofrequency (RF) technology in order to build collagen, tighten and firm up the skin, and to offer overall rejuvenation and improvement in the quality of the skin.
The two treatments just go about doing all these things in different ways.
Forma is a skin tightening and remodelling treatment that uses bi-polar RF heat energy. The treatment involves gliding a heated wand across target areas of the face in order to stimulate the body into building collagen, while also contracting the tissue just below the surface of the skin in order to give it that firmer quality. The overall result is plumper, firmer skin with a treatment that feels like a warm facial.
Morpheus8, on the other hand, uses RF technology in combination with microneedling, and has the unique capability to penetrate the skin at deeper levels than traditional microneedling treatments. The microneedling portion of the treatment is what provokes the wound healing response in the body and ultimately stimulates collagen production. RF technology tightens the skin, which equally gives the treatment a distinctive skin remodelling proficiency.
Which Treatment, Forma or Morpheus8, is Right for Me?
The treatment that’s best for you really depends on your skin concerns. Forma is really an ideal treatment if you’re looking to target mild to moderate skin laxity or if you’re simply looking to give your skin that glowy refreshed and firm look before a glam event.
Morpheus8, on the other hand, treats a variety of skin concerns, from improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to addressing skin irregularities, or targeting acne and acne scarring, and even improving the appearance of stretch marks on other areas of the body.
Both treatments are safe for all skin types and tones, so it really just depends on what results you’re looking to achieve.
Is There Any Downtime with Forma or Morpheus8?
Both treatments are non-invasive and require minimal to no downtime. We love Forma because it requires pretty much no downtime. It takes approximately 30 minutes, and you may look red or flushed from the heated wand following the treatment, but it really just looks like you had a great work-out and pretty much goes away within an hour of treatment. This is why Forma is so perfect if you’re looking for instant results just before an event, while a series of treatments will continue to improve your results.
With Morpheus8, because it involves microneedling, which basically means having a series of tiny pin pricks on the surface of the skin, you will need to account for a little social downtime to allow any redness, swelling, or very minimal bruising to subside. So we don’t recommend this one just before an event. Best to do this one on a Friday when you know you’re going to have a quiet weekend and you’ll be good by Monday (1-3 days on average).
Will I Need More Than One Treatment?
For both Forma and Morpheus8 we always recommend a series of treatments for optimal results.
With Forma if you’re just looking for a pre-event skin pick me up, then one treatment can suffice, but if you’re looking to truly improve on skin laxity we recommend a series of six treatments.
With Morpheus8, no matter the skin concern you want to address, we typically recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, and then after that yearly maintenance treatments.
