Is Financing an Option?

photo of a woman with a credit card and laptop

So you’ve been thinking about it for a long time. You’ve done your research, you’ve looked through before and after photos, you’ve been following what surgeons are posting on instagram. Maybe you’ve booked your free consultation, and you’re feeling excited—it’s looking like plastic surgery really is right for you.

When that happens, it’s such an exciting revelation! For many of us, the biggest question that comes next is how to make it work financially. Even during more stable times when income and work are reliably consistent, lots of us need to take extra steps to budget for bigger investments. Within the context of the current pandemic that has created so much economic uncertainty, it’s become a reality for even more.

Some of us are able to keep working from home in industries that have faced fewer disruptions but have changed their spending habits. But some of us work in businesses that require in-person contact with others, are unable to work at present and are feeling uncertain about when we’ll move towards more financial stability. Our patients fall into both of these categories and we’re hearing from people facing these different realities who are wondering about what financing can look like in times like these.

Before we move on, we want to say: to those who are continuing to work on the front lines at our hospitals, grocery stores, longterm care homes, post offices, public transit providers and more, we are so grateful for everything you have done and continue to do for all of us. We also have patients who work as doctors, nurses, hospital technologists, police officers and firefighters, among others. We are thankful for your resilience and we hope first and foremost that the situation will improve for the sake of your safety and wellbeing.

So, with that being said, wherever you’re at right now, if you have questions about financing a procedure with us we’re here to help you sort through your options.

The Cost of Plastic Surgery

When you first get in touch with us, we’ll let you know what our typical starting price is for your procedure of interest. Sometimes an operation has different variables that change depending on your body and your goals and those can affect the final cost of your surgery. For example, if you’re interested in a breast augmentation, the kind of implant you choose will have an impact on your overall cost. If you wanted to include fat transfer as part of your augmentation, that would also increase the cost.

Because of this, you’ll receive a firm quote from us once you’ve had a free consultation with one of our surgeons. They can assess the complexity of your case and let you know what would be required to achieve the result you want.

While our clinic is closed due to the pandemic, our surgeons are happy to conduct a virtual consult with you over the phone or via video chat. You’ll be able to ask questions about the operation and recovery, and you’ll also get a concrete sense of the cost of your surgery. If you’re interested in setting that up, you can fill out the form below.

Paying for Cosmetic Surgery with Us

The cost of your procedure covers your surgical fee, operating room fee, anesthesia fee and all of your follow up visits with us (we love to see you and hear from you often to make sure everything’s healing according to plan). We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Some people find that paying by credit card works well for them. Those who have been saving up for their procedure sometimes prefer this method as they’re able to pay off the charge to their card right away.

But don’t worry if paying by credit card is not a method that will work for you—we get that too. It’s not always the best solution for everyone, depending on credit limits and interest rates. And if you don’t have savings available, or you have savings that are earmarked for other purposes, then financing your procedure may be an option that works best.

How to Finance Cosmetic Surgery

If you would like to finance your procedure, we work with Medicard. It works well for a lot of patients because there is no down payment required, no collateral and no early payment penalty if you complete repayment before your term. You can decide if you want to finance your entire procedure cost or only a portion of it. Overall, they offer a level of flexibility that can be quite helpful.

Here are the fast facts about Medicard:

  • You can apply online, by phone or by fax, and there is no cost to apply or seek approval
  • Approval is typically very fast—some patients have applied during their visits with us and have been approved by the time their consultation ends
  • You can choose if you want to finance a portion of your procedure or all of it
  • Medicard pays us directly
  • You can choose between different terms depending on what works well for you, ranging from 6 months to 6 years, and there’s no penalty if you complete repayment early
  • Each month your payment is automatically deducted from your chequing account
  • If you don’t have credit history you can apply with a co-signer

Medicard has a very comprehensive website and they’re available to assist you over the phone or online if you have any questions. You can also reach out to us now if you’d like to find out more. We’re still answering phones and emails and we’re always happy to hear from you.
