The Top Cosmetic Surgery Trends of 2020
December 18, 2020
It’s been a crazy year that seems to have gone by both at record speed and in slow motion. The curveballs 2020 has thrown our way have no doubt been unprecedented for everyone, and we’ve been thinking of you as we all do our best to try to navigate it.
No matter the year, whether a better or worse one, we always like to end it on a high note. We especially enjoy looking back on our surgeries and seeing which ones made you the happiest.
Here’s what made the list this year.
Surgical and Non-Surgical Facelift
Both the surgical facelift and non-surgical facelift continued to be very popular procedures this year.
What’s gotten more attention this year was the facelift with fat transfer, a great option for those looking for a more permanent solution to adding volume to the face while addressing lax or sagging skin. This amazing procedure harvests unwanted fat from other areas of the body and is strategically injected into key areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, around the mouth, between the nose and mouth, and can even be done to the temples and forehead, in order to give your face that revitalized and youthful appearance.
On the flip side the liquid facelift, was also super widespread this year for those who preferred not to undergo surgery. Using a combination of injectables (dermal fillers and neuromodulators) in a strategic way, you can achieve some of what the surgical facelift offers (though less permanent and less dramatically). It’s a perfect option for people looking to achieve a soft lift as well as a contoured and sculpted face, creating a visible improvement in volume as well as in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and all without requiring surgery or downtime.
Surgical Lip Lift
The surgical lip lift has definitely grown in popularity this year. Patients with a thin upper lift are opting for this surgery that removes a small amount of skin between the lip and the nose, which lifts the lip in order to uncover the pink portion of the upper lip, revealing a fuller and more naturally shaped lip.
It’s a surgery that takes less than an hour and does wonders for patients for whom dermal fillers don’t work, or simply for patients who would like a more permanent result. It can also create a more balanced look to the face for those individuals who may have a larger gap between their mouth and nose.
Buccal Fat Removal
We started offering the buccal (cheek) fat removal procedure at The Plastic Surgery Clinic at the beginning of 2020 and patients are loving it. It’s a really straightforward surgery where the pad of fat just under the surface of the cheek hollow is removed in order to reveal a sleeker more contoured face, adding definition to those cheekbones. The procedure is not for everyone but can achieve an amazing result for the right candidates.
Breast Augmentation and the Brazilian Butt Lift
And of course breast augmentations and the Brazilian butt lift continue to reign supreme. What we’ve found this year is that patients are really opting for a natural look when it comes to breast augmentations. So, more than ever, we’ve been seeing a lot of breast augmentations with fat transfer where the breasts are augmented with your own fat harvested from other areas of the body (very similar to the facelift with fat transfer we chatted about above).
Some patients opt for fat transfer alone and may not get as much volume with this procedure as with an actual breast implant, but if what you’re looking for is to minimally increase the size of your breasts and you’d prefer not to have implants, this is a great surgery. If you want the volume increase that an implant can give you, and especially if you have a wider cleavage gap, we can include fat transfer around the implant to prevent its edges from showing, narrowing the gap between your breasts (aka creating great cleavage). Check out Dr. Lista’s recent instagram post to see what this technique achieved for one of our recent patients.
These are just some of the ways we create the signature natural look that we’re known for.
The Brazilian Butt Lift is based on the same fat injection premise, except fat is injected into the buttocks in order to give it a nice lift and some extra-added volume. Patients are definitely loving that you can get the look you want just by using what your own body already has to offer. Want to be wowed by the results? Check out Dr. Ahmad’s post about a recent Brazilian butt lift patient.
And the best part of these surgeries is that not only by using what you’ve already got are you getting the best most natural result possible, but you’re also getting rid of unwanted fat on other parts of your body, like the hips, thighs, and abdomen, giving your body that beautiful hourglass look.
Wishing you all the happiest of holiday seasons! We can’t wait to see you in 2021!
